Year 3 Recycle Shop

To raise money this half term, Year 3 decided to hold a Recycle Shop. They worked really hard to collect and decorate scrap items such as tin cans for pen pots and scrap card for bookmarks. They then had to plan and create their shop. On the last day of term - for one lunchtime only - they opened. All Year 3 were involved with the running of the shop and took their roles on very seriously and enthusiastically. In total, they made a SUPER £47.40! This will be donated to their chosen charity, Help for Heroes. Well done Year 3, excellent work.

This week Year 3 have been thinking about feelings, particularly the feeling of guilt. To help them think about the range of feelings you might feel when feeling guilty the children drew around one of their group members then wrote ideas within the outline and outside of it. The activity really helped them to work out how you might feel in different scenarios and then they were able to link this to their own experiences.

Pizza to go...

Mrs Blair's Maths group has been getting to grips with fractions today. The best way to learn is to do. Today we sliced pizzas into fractions to learn how several parts make up a whole. The class worked incredibly hard. Well done!

Year 3 Artists...

As part of our Artist week, the children got to try out lots of different techniques to create shading and textures as well as lots of different mediums to see which is their favourite. Here they are in action...

Year 3 Visit from an Artist...

This week, Year 3 were learning all about artists. They were very lucky to have a local artist in, talking to them about her art and inspirations. The children then got to have a go at trying to do a still life in her style. A very big thank you to Mrs Bradley for her time and effort.

Year 6 Homework (Due 27.3.13)

Here is the blurb from the back of a fiction book:

Sean and Annie have fled the potato famine in
Ireland for America, leaving their ill mother behind.
They are the only O'Brien children
to have survived their family's suffering.

The worst is not over as they embark on a hard
and dangerous journey all the way from Cork to California.
One thing gives them the courage to go on:
the hope that they might at least be reunited with their father.

  • Your task is to imagine, and write, the opening 150 words of the story.
Use this success criteria to help you:
- Use powerful verbs and adverbs to describe actions and events.
- Use adjectives and adjectival phrases to describe the characters and/or the settings.
- Vary your sentence types: simple, compound, complex.
- Use varied and accurate punctuation.
- Think about how you want the reader to feel and adapt your style accordingly.

Best Effort from CJS
